April 15 Snowmen

It was an incredible winter - and by incredible, I really mean awful. We had too many blizzards to count, feet upon feet of snow, and it all stretched into months. More snow fell in April than any other month this season. We had more days of winter than in Laura Ingalls Wilder's "The Long Winter," though thankfully we didn't have to twist any straw to burn or grind wheat in a crank coffee mill.

So, when the snow fell April 15 we tried to make the best of it and build our first snowmen of the season. (The winter was so cold that we hadn't been able to make any sooner. Snow does have to be warm enough to stick, as opposed to cold enough that you can walk across it.)

Our friends came over as we finished up the snowmen and helped build a fort too.

We call this guy "Limbo Snowman."

Our snowmen even did a little work for us. As the one on the left began to lean back, I decided to enter it into a Facebook contest for an amazing local restaurant. And we won! The kids knew that meant a date night for mom and dad, and an evening at Grandma and Grandpa's for them.

Thank you April 15 snow!
