Characters, Musicals and More

There's definitely not a shortage of entertainment on the Disney Dream. As I mentioned, we filled our days and still didn't touch about a quarter of what was available.

Each night, we attended an amazing performance in the two-story theater. Three of the nights were Disney Broadway-style musicals, with song, dance, comedy and beautiful costumes. "Believe" was my favorite, a compilation of some of the most popular Disney movie songs with a storyline of fairies and magic. The others, "Villains Tonight" and "The Golden Mickeys," were also magical, with some of our favorite characters and many new ones for the kids. Natalie even had a chance to be on stage in "The Golden Mickeys" as a dwarf, but got nervous last minute. She served as an assistant backstage instead.

Natalie wasn't the only one with a part to play. During a non-musical evening, Jason found himself on stage during the physical comedy act of Vegas performer Jeff Civillico. A very, very funny juggler and comedian, Civillico needed two volunteers and I sweet-talked Jason into raising his hand. His shiny bald head attracted Civillico's attention (and a kiss) and soon he was up on stage - for about 15 minutes of the show! Among other things, Jason help Civillico climb to the top of a tall unicycle. It put him in some, er, compromising positions. You can see the similar act on Civillico's site. Just picture Jason in the, well, most awkward position.

Swimming, as usual, was the kids' favorite activity. The 11th deck included a water park for young kids, a spiral water slide, a shallow kid pool and a deeper family pool - complete with huge movie screen running constant Disney movies. The highlight of the Dream is the enormous water slide, the AquaDuck, that runs around the ships perimeter and even off the ship for a small portion. Jason and I had an awesome ride on a raft.

Characters were another popular feature, showing up all over the ship through the day and evening. Some visits were posted and included small lines, with others were completely random. Natalie got a thrill one evening as Peter Pan ran through the atrium, with a frantic Captain Hook and wild kids chasing him down.

The kids spent a couple hours one day in the Oceaner Club, a kids' only club that works as a camp/daycare. Parents can check their kids in and out of the club with electronic bracelets and keep in touch with the counselors with the Wave phones provided in the staterooms. The entire facility is secure and run by wonderful, energetic counselors. Natalie and Gavin loved it.

Other activities we enjoyed included an entire ship Pirate party with fireworks, a movie in a theater, a dance party, photo opportunities, shopping and two ports of call. (More on those tomorrow.) What a great time!
