Lakes 2013: Water Fun

It's not a good week at the lakes without a lot of time in the water. Our kids are fish and can't get enough of the lake, beach and water sports. Natalie is still a bit nervous kayaking, tubing and knee boarding, but as long as we go slow, she's a happy camper.

Gavin was amazing knee boarding this summer. He tried for the first time last year and caught on right away, soon doing big circles around our end of the lake. He then talked about it for the past year, so excited to share his stories of cruising on the water. Obviously, he was very excited to get in the water again this year and he had the best time. In fact, we couldn't dump him this year, he just hung on through every choppy wave, a huge smile on his face. I'd finally have to swing the boat back toward where Jason waited in the water, slow down and ease him back into the water. What a guy!

And guess who else we got on the knee board? Natalie wouldn't try at our suggestion, but one time out she just made up her mind that she wanted to try. And she got up on her first attempt. Amazing! She made several circles on the lake before getting tired (or bored?) and asked to stop. I'm hoping she'll get back out next year as she seems to have a talent for it too.

Of course, Jason had to get out there as well. He had a great time.

I stuck to the tube, taking Gavin on a fun ride. I prefer a relaxing ride behind the boat, but he worked to make sure we hit every big wave. Crazy man.

He's also a little zen on the tube.

Natalie went for a couple really slow rides and enjoyed it. I think she's got a little of her mom in her.

Based on their tubing difference described above, how do you think the joint tube ride went? Yep, you're right.

The resort beach is wonderful, with a roped off shallow swimming area, dock, little kid paddle boats, plenty of sand and two rafts to swim out to. The kids swam out on their own this year (with life jackets still) and talked Jason into some watermelon dives again. I love watching them.

We also took the kayaks out as a family one afternoon. The lake was a little choppy at the time, but we still had so much fun paddling around. I love kayaking. And tubing. And boating. And fishing. I love everything about the lakes.
