I’m posting my favorite products and programs because they’re just that – my favorites. I'm not being compensated by anyone. Shame though.
Last fall I joined a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group for the first time. The international organization purposefully gathers moms to encourage and support one another. Groups meet every other week across the world to listen to speakers, do service projects, make meals together, craft, pray, share and enjoy each others' company.
While the moms gather for breakfast and their activities, all of the kids meet for MOPETTES. I was incredibly impressed by this aspect of the program. Our kids were treated to a blend of Sunday School and Preschool - doing art projects, singing songs, playing in the gym, playing pretend with friends and learning Bible lessons. I always knew my kids were in good hands, making it easy to just focus on myself for a couple hours. What a treat.
I was nervous about joining a new group, but it turned out to be a wonderful decision. I met some amazing people, learned some new parenting skills and relaxed into prayer with other moms by my side. Natalie and Gavin looked forward to our Tuesday mornings as well and always had lots to share after their two hours.
Our group continues to meet during the summer for park playdates, giving us all a chance to get to know each other a little better and let the kids stay in touch. All of the playdates are already on my calendar.
Other MOPS benefits include the MomSense magazine, e-newsletters, Web site tools and leadership training for those interested in serving on the steering committing. The organization even holds an annual conference.
I encourage you to find a MOPS group in your community.
I'm glad I did.
