It's been a long winter for Gavin with all of his teething and poopy diapers, but things took a scary turn Feb. 3 when his right eardrum ruptured (read: blood running out of his ear). And just the day before, he was diagnosed with an infection in that ear, caught during his one-year well-check. We'd had no idea he was even having ear troubles. So we started antibiotics that night, but in less than 24 hours it became so bad that his poor eardrum ruptured from all of the
pressure of the infection. Argh.
And, sadly, that was only the beginning.
Two doctor visits, two ER trips and two urgent care episodes later, Gavin was wrapping up a second double ear infection and healing from the third rupture. Each time, he gave us no signs that anything was wrong. We'd just try to put him to bed at night after a happy day, he'd fuss and then be up the whole night crying and fitfully sleeping. Trip to the doctor the next morning and - bam - another horrible ear infection.
We met with one of our primary doctors last week to talk through everything and now he's on really strong antibiotics and an antibacterial ear drop. I'm also taking him to the chiropractor a
couple times a week to adjust his upper neck, which should help as well.
We're not talking tubes yet. Just trying to be proactive to clear up this mess and praying hard that he won't have any scarring or hearing troubles related to these infections.
Now where's that medicine dropper?
