After being so thrilled with the French Press Knits cowls, I immediately wanted to try another one of her projects. The Take Me Home Hat seemed like a great fit, especially since I had a couple friends due with babies.
I'm so happy with how the first hat turned out. It was so soft in organic cotton and I loved the details of eyelets and seed stitch brim. It's also designed to be given with two ribbons - one blue, one pink - for new parents to bring to the hospital.
However, it didn't fit the baby!
I think this pattern would best fit a small newborn, perhaps under 6 pounds. An 8-pound baby needs a little more room!
So I adjusted the pattern - really the first time I did so many edits on my own. Here's what I did:
Added 9 stitches around.
Replaced the seed stitch brim with a stretchier 2K, 2P ribbing.
Added 1 inch to the height of the hat.
Adjusted the top of the hat decreases accordingly.
Here's how it turned out:
I think I'll make a couple more!
Update: Here are photos of all three hats, including the tiny first one I made. I wish I had a photo of all three together so the size difference was more apparent.
