Coffee Cozies

I wanted to make something simple, yet useful, for the kids' teachers this Christmas. Coffee Cozies quickly came to mind and I dug out a pattern I had gathered some time back. After looking it over, I decided I could just wing one of my own, similar to how I made the kids' neck cozies. It took a bit of trial and error to get the stitch count accurate, but once I got going they were especially fun to make. I enjoy a project that I can finish in one evening.

Here's the pattern:

Coffee Cup Cozies

Materials:
Left over worsted weight yarn
Size 6 or so DPNs
(Really, it's all rather forgiving)

Instructions:
Cast on 40 stitches.
Divide among 3 needles.
Repeat knit two, purl two every round until the cozy measures about 3 inches.
Bind off loosely.
Adorn with a fancy button. (Mine are from Wal-mart!)
For a gift, wrap around a clean coffee shop cup and stuff a gift card inside. Voila!

Once I had two cozies done for gifts, I just kept going, making another one for myself and a good friend. I have two buttons left so I think I'll finish up two more and stash them in my gift drawer. You never know when you might need a cozy!

Update: I made one more set, using up the buttons I had purchased.
