Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day is always such a treat. Jason woke me up late with a plate of steaming French toast. Later, as I stepped into the kitchen for more coffee, I looked out the window to find a bird feeder posted on the deck, with a rustic bird house next to it - just what I had hinted for, looking forward to hours of watching birds with the kids.

During the weekend, we also attended a couple events in which the kids made special gifts for Mother's Day. They built and painted beautiful planters at Home Depot for me. Later they decorated clay pots and planted petunias at a local nursery. Oh, how proud they were of their creations. And how filled my front steps are now - step over carefully when you come to visit!

The biggest gift from Jason came when he didn't grumble or try to talk me out of ripping out a rock garden Saturday afternoon. Inspired by the nursery flowers to put in an annual bed this spring, I chatted on and on about wanting to dig out the old bushes and remove the wheelbarrow's full of rock. Jason just picked up his shovel and dug in, knowing he would have to do the majority of the work and it would take hours.

Those are my favorite gifts.
