Visiting the 'Bock Bocks'

Gavin has found a new love - chickens! We visited my parents' farm twice this week to see the many chickens, which Gavin lovingly calls "bock bocks." (His clucking sound.) Natalie's interested in them, but from a I'll-admire-you-from-afar sort of way.

Gavin, on the other hand, runs around the yard and barn calling "I catch bock bock" and "I touch bock bock." And he has - nearly caught one, that is. Thankfully, they seem to be very understanding chickens, who either squat down to be pet or get the heck out of the way.

If it weren't for a city ordinance prohibiting them, I'd consider adding a pair of hens to our backyard. They're excellent gardeners and would keep the kids and dogs fairly entertained.

How cute! Gavin is such a smart kid. I didn't know that chickens were beneficial to the land. Just thought they laid eggs and made for a great roast.

It's the new thing out here in urban-ville to have backyard chickens. Technically, our yard isn't big enough to qualify, so we're now focusing on bees... Stay tuned.
