Sometimes the heavens part and we’re struck with a glorious aura known simply as dumb luck. While we’d like to take credit for earning some of the goodness that has befallen us, we actually need to quietly rejoice in the moment and say prayers of thanks. A few jumps of joy don’t hurt either.
That’s true for us these days as our little man has potty trained himself.
I apologize for not staying completely quiet about this moment of luck, but I preface my cheers with this disclaimer: I, mom of Gavin, can take absolutely no credit in my son’s potty training. There, I said it. I’m not even going to try to claim any of this had anything to do with me.
Little Gavin just up and decided he was ready to be a man, pee from a stool and wear green Fruit of the Loom underpants.
We were actually going to wait until this summer or even the fall to really start working with him. But during his conferences a month ago, his daycare teacher told us she thought he was ready and we should make the leap. Eeek, I thought. He’s my still my little baby!
After a failed first attempt (seriously, it’s not his fault. Teething issues made him poop six times in one day. Six times!), we waited a week and tried again. Easter weekend in fact.
And yes, there have been the occasional accidents. But we put it to the test this Sunday by taking him to church for 2.5 hours without pull-ups. And he did wonderfully.
It wasn't this easy with our first child and the next milestone we face with Gavin could leave us in tears. But right now, it’s sure feeling like good case of dumb luck.
And I’m loving it.
