Man, This Stinks

Jason and I have come to the very disappointing realization that the biggest determining factor in the success of our professional careers is poop.

Gavin's poop.

His tendency toward loose diapers (the word constipation isn't in either of our kids' vocabularies) combined with teething, colds, ear infections, changes in diet and antibiotic use is problematic to say the least. Then, you throw in our daycare's very strict state rules on those sorts of things and we've got a little school drop out on our hands. It's been weeks, literally weeks, since either of us has worked a full and normal 40-hour week.

It all sort of hit the fan yesterday when he had his allotted two loose diapers by 4 p.m. and was sent home, an hour from the time I usually pick him up. And now he's home today, probably for the next 10 days, since he can't go back until he's "loose-free" for 24 hours. And with the course of antibiotics he's on for his burst eardrum (don't even ask about that story...I'm still sopping up tears ... my own), things aren't looking up.

So there we have it. Work ethic, work quality and teamwork are all being out-shined, er, out-smelled, by dirty diapers. About all we can do is roll up our sleeves, plug our noses and dig in.

Can someone please pass the Balmex?

OMG, I'm so sorry you guys are dealing with all of this! That's shitty ;) (sorry, so many poop jokes going around in my head...) Ugh, hope you can hang in there until poor little Gavin is all better. (nice work on the Rich Sommer article, by the way! do you follow his blog?)

Oh, Amanda, misery loves company, and this blog post has made my day. Not that I'm saying it's a good thing for poor Gavin and his bowel movements. But after dealing with a horrific stomach bug that knocked our family out for five straight days, and monitoring the baby's poop to make sure she could finally attend daycare today, I want to say I feel your pain. Or should I say, I smell your pain.

Maybe you can get a note from the doc allowing Gavin to get around that daycare rule? My father-in-law the doctor says diarrhea is considered an issue if they have 6 or more episodes a day. Gavin needs his daily allotment bumped up!!
