One More Celebration

What a birthday month for Gavin! We had his last of three parties today, inviting our families over to celebrate with cupcakes. Gavin had a wonderful time, shoving an entire cupcake in his mouth and making such a mess that Daddy actually had to put him in the tub! He loved opening presents - with lots of help from Natalie - playing with new toys and hanging out with family.

Last weekend, Dwain and Benita treated both of the kids to a party at Chuck E Cheese, with my side of the family invited as well. Sadly, Benita couldn't make it, as she caught the awful stomach bug that went through our whole family. Gavin had the explosive diapers for an entire week, and the other three of us spent an entire night throwing up. So, poor Benita caught it after watching Gavin for a day so we could actually get back to work. We taped and photographed the party and the kids had a super time. They loved watching the show and got wide-eyed when Chuck E Cheese came out to sing to them.

Most days, I still can't believe Gavin's one. Sure, he doesn't look or act like an infant anymore, but how did a year go by so fast? He still loves to be snuggled and tickled at the base of his neck, splashes in the tub like a fish, laughs hardest for his sister and loves playing with his friends at daycare. But now he's taking steps on his own, saying a couple words, signing "more," playing independently for several minutes at a time, only taking a couple bottles a day, and hardly eating any baby food. Just a few more months, and he'll be in the toddler room at daycare and running through the house after his sister and the puppies.

I thank God every day for giving us such an amazing baby boy. He's brought such joy to our family and is a blessing to have in our care. So here's to a wonderful first birthday, Gavin. We love you so much.

The only one who had more fun opening presents than Gavin was Natalie, of course.

Gavin's wondering the best way to tackle this puppy.
