Never Ask a 2-Year-Old

It should be an obviously understood fact that you shouldn't ask a 2-year-old for important information, but sometimes there's just not another source. As a determined journalist by trade, I've learned sometimes you just have to take what you can find and that's what happened yesterday when I needed to know if Natalie's student teacher, Lindsey, was going to be at school this week or if she was done teaching. I was wrapping presents and wondering if I should
include one for her.

"Is Lindsey going to be at school tomorrow?" I asked.

"Yes," says Nattie while playing with a toy.

"So she's still teaching?"

"No, she's done."

"Oh, so you won't see her anymore?" I asked, not sure she was understanding me.

"Yes. She come back to see us?" she says.

"Later?"

"Yes. Tomorrow."

"Oh," I say, surprised. "So she will be there tomorrow."

"No, she not."

"So she's not going to be at school?" I say, pulling on my hair.

"Yes, she is."

Alright, we'll let that one go and send an extra present just in case. Now if I could only get her to give a straight answer on whether she hid the baby Jesus from our nativity scene...
