Natalie has been saying the funniest things lately. Her language has suddenly flourished again, leaving us downright speechless sometimes with what comes out of her mouth. She has a tendency to talk non-stop at home, about all kinds of things. She's a bit more shy in public.
Yesterday, as I was (politely) demanding more pretend pizza she was making for me, she looked up with me and clear as day said, "Have patience." Serious, annoyed face as well. I'm guessing she's heard that phrase a few times at school.
I've called Natalie a string of nicknames since she was born. Sunshine, schmumkin (don't ask), sweetpea, sweetpotato, buckadoo, etc. But she'll have none of it now. When I use one, she looks at me and says, "No, I Natalie." Yes, ma'am.
Natalie loves to feed the dogs breakfast and dinner, telling Sacci to sit and stay on his bed. When she's brought him his bowl, she says, "Free, free, free" and he's actually started listening to her. So I taught her to say, "I tiny dog trainer." It cracks me up.
She now leads prayer at the table. We were saying a whole prayer that Jason's said with his family since he was little, but she's shortened it and we've kinda taken to it. "Bless us, O Lord. Amen." Sort of says it all, right?
Also at the dinner table, she has a low tolerance for any volume. When I speak louder than normal (which I tend to do anytime I'm passionate about something I'm saying, whether happy or mad) she yells, "No, mommy, daddy, mommy, daddy" and looks back and forth between us. I reassure her that I'm not mad, especially at daddy, but just talking excitedly. "No, mommy, daddy!" she repeats. Geez, OK already. Now I have to whisper stories to Jason at the dinner table.
