Share the News

Thanks to some good old IV fluids, the wonder drug Zofran and a steady dose of steroids I’m able to pull my head out of the toilet for a couple minutes to share the good news – we’re expecting again! It’s looking like early February, about a month after little Natalie will turn 2.

Appears I’m off to an even better start with this pregnancy than my first. Just when I thought I’d experienced enough severe morning sickness, I was hit even stronger this time. God has a funny sense of humor, as this time I have a toddler to tend to and a husband writing his master’s thesis. Very funny….

Meds have done little to control the constant throwing up, so much to the point that yesterday my doctor sent me to the hospital for an afternoon of meds and fluids. I was terrified to reach that point (my condition is known as Hyperemesis Gravidarium), but it turned out to be the best thing I could have done. I instantly felt better and worked up a huge appetite, eating my first actual dinner in three weeks! Now with steady doses of Zofran, a med commonly used by chemo patients for nausea, and steroids (both of which I’m told constantly are completely safe for baby), we’re hoping to keep my tummy calm enough to at least get some much needed nutrition to little Ray (brace yourself, it’s sappy: Our Little Ray of Sunshine.)

I’ll post an ultrasound (hopefully) in a few weeks. Until then, you likely won’t hear much from me. Between trying to keep down my peanut butter sandwiches, bumbling through a day at work and passing out by 8 p.m., there’s not much time for anything. Here’s to the next few weeks going by quickly, without any churning.
