If I'd only had a camera last night

There are those moments of awe and wonder in parenting that you nearly hold your breath waiting for. We had one last night -- involving a worm. We'd spent an hour outside playing with Natalie. We scooped and dumped sand in her new sandbox, ran around in the grass, threw a ball, picked weeds out of the gardens and then just before heading inside found an earthworm. Jason picked him out from under the rocks and held him in his palm for Natalie to see. Even as she scrunched up her nose and mouth in disgust, she reached out for him with tiny fingers.

"Give it to mommy, baby," I said and she picked him up and handed the little worm to me.

Back and forth she passed the little worm, watching it wiggle in our palms. At one point she even leaned forward to give the little guy a kiss, though Jason pulled his hand away just in time. We want her to love nature, but maybe just a little less than that. We said goodbye to our new little friend and put him back under the rocks.

Ahh, if I'd only had a camera.
