When it came time to pick out a summer athletic program for Natalie, she wasn't too interested in the usual tee-ball, golf and tennis choices. I was having a hard time finding something for her until I stumbled across the Fargo Parks track program. I'd never heard of it. Coached by college and high school track athletes, the four-week program exposes kids 5-8 to long distance, sprint, hurdles, long jump and throwing. The kids practice one evening a week and have a track meet another evening that week.
Natalie really enjoyed it and we were impressed with how well it was run, considering the dozens of children attending. She especially loved that one of the distance coaches was her future aunt, Paige!
She worked hard in all of the events, with the hurdles and sprint going especially well for her. This kid can book it! Her favorite event was the 400 meter, if you don't count the Gatorade at the end of the track meets. Having good friends to play with between events was also a hit.
We'll definitely keep this program in mind for future summers.
