Note: I am fully aware that simply by writing this, my children will begin fighting as soon as I press the Publish key. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.
Shhh. I may have found the secret to a smooth transition into summer.
Curious?
It's simple. Overload your kids' schedules so they simply run out of time to bicker.
Genius, right?
It happened by accident. I usually stick to my one-activity-at-a-time rule. But somehow Gavin's spring soccer ran right into summer. Natalie wanted track while Gavin wanted golf. And screw it. Why not toss daily swimming in there too and get our activities out of the way for the rest of the summer?
And our first week?
It was amazing! We played, enjoyed picnics, met up with friends, went to the zoo, explored farms, read, ran through sprinklers and, of course, tried out some new sports. We barely had time for naps and couldn't keep up with the messy house or laundry, but, man, did we have fun!
Unlike our first week of last summer, I didn't spend my days prying children apart. No fighting. Little sassing. Just a touch of whining.
Genius, I tell you.
Genius.
