Back in February, I took a knitting class on Selbuvotter mittens, a Norwegian knitting tradition that blends design and color. Immediately, it was very overwhelming. I had never knit in two color, nor had I used needles smaller than size 9. After the first night, I came home and ripped out everything I'd done during the past hour and a half.
I started fresh a couple weeks later with 12-inch circulars and determination. Stitch by stitch I forced myself to use my left hand to work my design color, while relying on my right to throw my main color. Surprisingly, it became easier and soon I had the start to a beautiful mitten.
I've had the pair completed for a couple weeks now, but just got around to adding the thumbs - with some more instruction. I can't say I want to knit thumbs again anytime soon. They're lumpy and tight. (Note to self for future thumbs: relax, relax, relax.)
But overall?
I'm delighted.

those are beautiful mittens!
I am impressed - they look incredible, Amanda! I haven't made too much progress on mine, but hope to finish them over the summer in time for fall.
