Potholders
It's almost been a year since I first learned to knit. My friends Andrea and Carrie and I had been talking about all wanting to learn. We were all looking for a new hobby, something we could take with us wherever - a coffee shop, trip, home. We signed up for a beginners class at Prairie Yarns and learned to make felted potholders.
The class was so much fun. We all quickly learned to cast-on, knit, purl and eventually tackle some increases and decreases. We browsed the yarn selection and were inspired to try new projects.
I learned best with hands-on help and lots of practice, so I cranked out six potholders in the next month. Practicing the same stitches over and over until they felt more natural and I could even (gasp) talk a little while knitting.
I kept the first two, in red, for myself and gave the other two sets to my mom and mother-in-law for their kitchens. I use mine almost every day during meals at our table. They're practical, pretty and a reminder of learning a fun new hobby with friends.
Thanks, Andrea and Carrie!
