Our Newest Addition

It's been nearly seven weeks since we added a new member to our family - and we're in love.

We adopted Cloudy, a two-year-old calico cat, from my friend Lori. She's gentle, very friendly, extremely patient with the kids and quite possibly the prettiest cat I've ever seen (yes, I'm biased). Even the dogs have officially accepted her into the family, though not without a few days of barking, followed by a few weeks of random cat chases. She's still hissing at them sporadically, but gradually learning that they aren't that bad to have around.

Jason and I both grew up with cats - me with two indoors and him with several outdoors. Sadly, once we were no longer living with our parents, we both became very allergic to cats. We never really expected to have one in our own home.

But the kids love pets and animals of all kinds. They started asking begging us for a cat. I'm not one to cave on demanding kids, but I kind of felt the same way. A cat would be a wonderful addition to the family and much easier than adding another dog. They're super independent, lower maintenance and usually don't TRY to be naughty (not that we have a dog like that...).

So, we started looking around for a cat to adopt. And then one day, Lori contacted us about Cloudy. I showed her photo to the kids and they went wild. We met Cloudy and knew she was it, the cat we were looking for.

Welcome to your new home, Cloudy.

As of tonight, she even has her own door to a dog-free area of the house.
