Itasca Weekend

With temps in the 80s, we decided we couldn't let another weekend go by without enjoying the fall colors of a state park. We headed to Itasca for Saturday afternoon to take in some biking and visiting the headwaters.

Unfortunately, biking with a kid trailer behind me kicked my butt. I spent half of my time (read: uphill) walking my bike and the rest cruising down hills to a toddler crying out for me to go slower. Natalie and Jason had a great time on their bike set up, thankfully, with Nat riding a tag-along behind Jason.

Dear husband also forgot to mention our trail wasn't a loop so I'd have to ride the blasted thing all the way back. No way was that going to happen. So the kids and I explored the Mississippi headwaters while he rode back to grab the car. In just a few minutes, Gavin was soaked to his neck swimming in the freezing lake and Natalie was carefully stepping from one big rock to another trying to cross the river. I captured as many photos as I could while keeping them safe.

Pizza for supper and swimming at the hotel wrapped up an adventuresome day. We're already talking about plans to go back next fall.

Thanks, Itasca.

 Getting ready to walk across

It's much easier to take the half-log bridge

You can't really tell, but his clothes are dripping wet from swimming.

Beautiful headwaters

P.S. Note the lack of biking photos. I was too busy trying not to pass out to dig out the camera. Should have taken one before we took off. Next year, Jason's pulling both kids!
