Thanks to Jason’s parents, the two of us had a long-awaited weekend together. Alone. Did I mention it was just the two of us?
We love traveling as a family, but we’re discovering that as our family size has increased – and thus have the demands of daily life – that coveted time as a couple becomes more and more important. We need that time to think, talk, eat dinner over the course of an hour, or, heck, two hours.
His parents treated us to a couple nights at The Lodge in Detroit Lakes, a luxury escape just a short drive from home, and took the kids and dogs for the weekend. We knew everyone was safe, happy and spoiled and could just focus on ourselves for a couple days.
The rooms are impossibly gorgeous, with a gas fireplace, mosaic artwork, aromatherapy hot tub, plush robes, mini kitchen and a balcony looking out to the lake. Complimentary kayaks provided a fun Saturday afternoon excursion and delicious martinis topped off a beautiful sunset that evening. A little time on the beach and later in the pool made sure we got the most from our stay. And Jason treated me to my first pedicure ever, as well as a little massage at The Spa Within, located on the first floor in the resort. I almost didn’t come out and now can’t stop glancing down at my flashy red toes.
To top it all off, we celebrated our nine years of marriage.
Happy Anniversary, Jas.
