Dancing Queen

Well, it turns out little N inherited her parents love for ballroom dancing. We knew she liked to boogie at home and at school, but hadn’t seen her on a dance floor until we attended a family wedding in Bismarck earlier this month. It was a challenge to keep her entertained and melt-down-free until the dance started close to 8 p.m. (remember, she goes to bed at 7 p.m.), but it was so worth it!

We took her out on the floor right away for a two-step. Jason nestled her right in between us. Mind you, two kids (one in-utero) in between us doesn’t make for the best “proper” dancing technique, but man, it’s fun! Oh, and how little Nattie laughed and laughed as we danced across the room. She kept looking back and forth at us and then out at the other people around us. Laughing and laughing.

We each took turns holding her and dancing to other songs, swaying, spinning, bouncing and just being silly. Each time she laughed even more – never getting tired of all the music and motion. She danced a little on her own too, holding our hands and shaking her little hips.

Grandma watched her while Jason and I took on a swing number. No flips like the old days, my friends, but I even surprised Jason with my ability to keep time, spin and add a little sass, all while heaving 20 pounds of extra tummy weight around. Natalie must have thought things looked pretty good too – she just stood there transfixed while Grandma took photos.

Won’t be too long before Jason will be teaching her some waltz and polka steps. And little Ray, he’s going to make a good partner for mommy too in a few years. After all, he’s already been on the dance floor too!
