Little Getaway

What a sweet weekend getaway with Natalie! We met up with our friends Mike and Erika, and their little boy Eddie, in the Cities for an afternoon at Como Park and the Conservatory. The weather was beautiful, a sunny 85, and the babies had a blast checking out the animals and flowers and enjoying their stroller rides. Natalie skipped a nap and was in the best mood, checking out everything around her and talking about frogs the entire time – despite the fact that I don’t think she even saw a single frog there!

Later in the day we gobbled up Swedish meatballs at IKEA, bought her a goofy little push toy and bummed around for an hour at the MOA. Back at the hotel, we naively thought we could just pop her in her pack-n-play in the corner of the room and dim the lights while enjoy a relaxing evening of Animal Planet, but apparently those days, sadly, have ended. As an infant, Natalie was a super traveler, sleeping in the car on trips and going to bed at 6:30 in a hotel with the lights and TV on. We’d order a pizza and relax while she slumbered away. That however, was before the little goomer could stand up and see what was going on. Saturday night she cried and babbled, stood up and laid back down, through all her toys and pacis out and then reached over and pulled in a decorative pillow from the poofy chair next to her crib. Finally, at 9 p.m. we shut off the lights and TV and all went to bed early.

Sunday we swam – Natalie hadn’t been in a pool in months, but picked up right where she left off. She’s such a fish! – and headed to Maple Grove for some shopping and a delicious lunch at Bucca di'Beppo. The ride home was great, as long as we provided a steady flow of snacks and beverages...unfortunately, now she thinks the backseat of the car always has a mini buffet and fusses when there's not a sippy for her on the way home from daycare.

We look forward to a handful of other weekend getaways this summer!
