Merry Christmas 2009

Thanks to a rather respectable winter storm, we didn't have a typical Christmas this year, but in the end it was even better than expected. We spent Christmas Eve with Jason's family, enjoying steak and lobster (mmmm...) for supper and spending lots of time relaxing and playing with the kids. His parents are excellent hosts and never seem to mind all of the noise and chaos that come with inviting in four people and two dogs.

As the storm came in, we were still able to make it to church and back home safely. It snowed all night and Christmas day, blocking us inside with huge drifts. We were supposed to host my family Christmas day, but none of us were really able to get anywhere so we stayed put for a couple days. Happily, when you can't go anywhere and you can't do any chores, about all you can do is play, sleep and eat! The kids had a blast checking out their new toys, watching movies and baking with me in the kitchen.

By Sunday, we were able to host Christmas 2.0 and had a wonderful day with my family. We've started a new tradition of just serving appetizers and desserts and I have a feeling it's going to stick. I love just being able to casually graze during the evening, letting the kids run around if they need to. We got a fire going downstairs, all gathered around and talked, laughed and relaxed.

We hope all of your holidays were just as special.
