Lately I can't get myself to turn the computer on for any significant amount of time in the evening. On one hand, I'm dying to log all of the wonderful, crazy, fun stories floating around in my mind. But on the other, I can't bear to spend any more time in the world of social media than I already do.
These days, my job is heavily focused on Web, technology, blogs, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Flip video, LinkedIn, content management system, e-mails and IM, with a little Flickr, TwitPic, Wufoo and RSS thrown in. I love it. It's exhilerating. Just today, I received a camera in the mail and spent the afternoon testing it out, showing it off and just smiling like a fool. Many days I find myself just gobbling up new ideas and communication styles as fast as I'll be packing in the turkey tomorrow.
But that means by the time I come home each evening, throw some dinner on the table, play with the kids and tuck them in bed, I'm about fried. My creative juices are on empty and I know my brain needs a little 'unplugged' time to recharge. So, it's a little hard to do something that at the same time helps me relax - writing. Writing about my family, friends, hopes, struggles, sillies and special moments. It's how I process the world, taking thoughts and ideas and molding them on paper (or on screen) until they best express ... me.
So, it appears I'll just need to find a way of keeping up my personal social media life, while still giving myself a chance to unplug for a few hours a day. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
In the meantime, check out this Flip Mino video I shot of Gavin last night. My amazing student writer Gia can be thanked for the editing.

I hear ya. I am on the computer all day long and then for some odd reason I feel the need to check FB, Twitter and the blogs when I am at home, too. Crazy. But I guess I wouldn't want to give any of that up. By the way, I want your job. ;)
