Swiper, No Swiping!

Natalie has definitely latched on to a favorite TV show. As many of you know, we don’t have cable at our house, just good old-fashioned rabbit ears. Natalie’s growing up without knowing what Nick-Junior is, or one of the dozens of other toddler/kid TV stations and their many shows. But thanks to a couple mom friends, we have oodles of videos and there’s always the trusted PBS.

She first showed interest in Sesame Street and Elmo and still watches the show for 20 or 30 minutes every morning while mom and dad scurry to get ready. I thought Elmo was in the lead for favorite character, but then she started getting hooked on Dora. We have two videos, with a total of four 15-minute episodes, that she loves to watch Saturday mornings. Then dad went and bought a DVD called “Dora Gets a Puppy.” Now she’s OBSESSED with Dora!

Just this week she started talking about Swiper, the little fox that tries to steal things from Dora and Boots, her little monkey sidekick. He says “Oh, man!” every time he gets caught and now our little Nattie says “Swiper. Oh, man!” with just the right inflection to her voice. Only thing is, she says it over…and over … and over… You get the idea.

It’s cute for the first couple minutes and then it just grinds away at your sanity! I know all little toddlers repeat, repeat, repeat. After all, it’s how they learn. Good old repetition. But we seriously need to find some other Dora topics to talk about.

Oh, man!
